Christmas Break

I'm back in Bermy right now for my break and feel like I haven't stopped since I've been here... Between visiting family members, regular business and doing school work I feel like I will need another vacation in January! Things have been crazy down here with all of the hustle and bustle attached with the Christmas season and recent violent acts have added an eerie twist to the atmosphere. I walked into my barber shop and went straight in the chair... The streets are empty and I don't think its because its cold. Anyways, I'm just happy to be back here and am taking the time to relax whenever I can. Next week I have a lot to get done and the sooner I start finishing the projects the better my next semester will be. Im gonna take a shot at blogging again for the thirty first time... but yeah. I got some ppl to catch up with... later

The producer that discovered Sean Paul sits down with Red Bull Music Academy and gives great insight to the music industry for dancehall artist and producers.

Yesterday I was looking up reggae and dancehall producers on the net trying to find out what type of equipment they use when producing riddims. I came across a great interview/lecture given by Jeremy Harding a producer of some of dancehall's hottest riddims. Its a long video but it is definitely worth the watch as he explains many things from his beginnings with dancehall music, the way the music industry works in Jamaica, and even how homophobic stereotypes have been played into by reggae artist. Wow, this feels crazy.

I feel like I'm watching something really historical about to happen. Almost as if I am face to face with a black swan.

Jay-Z has really impressed me with his even further development as an artist (or perhaps a business man.) I have never purchased a Jay-Z album to date. I guess I'm more of a Kanye West fan. However, I will be getting BP3.

Ghetto Techno is what really made the big difference. Regardless if it is a major hit, or a major miss, or even on the album. I feel as if this could potentially be remembered as one of the more bold decisions or ventures in his music career. It almost sounds like he took a record from JT. Jay-Z is not the first artist that I have heard use this style but it amuses me that he is undoubtedly going to want to take credit for making it pop.

Off That is a new level of boastyness declaring that anything that you are about to discover Hov and Drake already are "Off That." I think its a cool track but imo Drake missed a big opportunity to shine on his first track with Jigga.

Venus Vs Mars has all the elements of a hypnotic banger but lacks a bit in the hook.

Thats just what I think.

I usually don’t do this but today i'm addressing a more formal topic. And before I get into this I will start by saying, with Great Emphasis, These are just MY views. Also I may be incorrect. If you are going to read this don’t hate me. I have seen a lot of discussions turn heated and very disrespectful. I know that I don’t have to worry about that so Friends if you disagree we can talk about it. It’s just me Stefan. So here it goes.

I was reading The Royal Gazette today... Needless to say, I actually like Dr Brown and I think that he is doing a Great job serving my country. I guess I was in the 24% who still approved of his leadership in the heat of confusion and misinformation which is when they took the poll. I think that we are getting tricked into looking at things in the short term and that is why we are so afraid of progressive decisions and planning.

Now, I didn’t intend to make this so long but I started so I might as well keep going now. What I feel about the situation with Premier Dr Brown is that he did what he felt was best for the island of Bermuda. I think that he saw this opportunity to show that Bermuda is a world leader in humanitarianism. I know that he knew that there would be people that would oppose his decision to bring the four men here. Come on. We live in Bermuda with an opposition party that will pretty much oppose anything, good or bad. I’m not hating on them either because that’s their job, to put doubt in the peoples mind that the current government is not the best and that they can do better.

I think that Dr Brown did not foresee that people would be outraged at his decision to make the decision to bring the men here on his own with only consulting one other individual. And to me this is not as big of an issue as it is being talked up to be. I’m not going to get into the he said, she said, he lied, she lied, discussion because politicians always say things to make their points sound better. And if Dr Brown lied and said they were no risk then the opposition lied and said that they were terrorist. So im not even going to get trapped in those small details.

I will entertain the argument that this was a foreign affairs policy and that the Premier did not have proper authorization to make the decision he did. But if you will argue that I want to ask you this. Wouldn’t you prefer that the party that you elect can make decisions with other countries? Right now they cant. I have a problem with that. This whole situation has taught me that when I voted, the party that I voted for would not have Permission to deal with foreign affairs on their own. Its like being in elementary school and raising your hand to go to the bathroom. When will Bermuda grow up?
I agree with Walter Lister that the Bermuda Constitution needs to be looked at. People like to call Dr. Ewart Brown a dictator but the same people don’t seem to mind that the Constitution puts the Governor in charge of ALL foreign affairs. Guess what… WE DO NOT GET TO CHOOSE OUR GOVERNOR… That means technically WE DO NOT HAVE A SAY IN OUR FOREIGN AFFAIRS.

Is this ok for you?

I know that with the social climate this is a terrible time to bring up the topic of independence but at times like this I wish we were. Look at us now. We are chastising our leader for making a decision for his country without getting permission first.
Now if you have personal issues with Dr Brown I cant help you. He is who he is and he makes no apologies for it. I do think that he should apologize to Bermuda for making the decision in and of him self, however people don’t like him so much for whatever reason a heartfelt sincere apology will not be enough. However I will say this. I would appreciate it if we showed our leaders some more respect. Watching the video of Dr Brown walking past the angry protesters with his wife reminded me of footage from when schools first went through desegregation with people like Ruby Bridges. We do not need to go backwards. Come on Bermuda, even if YOU think that something wrong was done, be respectful and let it be known the right way.

Death of autotune???

Is it possible for one person to successfully declare the death of autotune? I dont think so, and I think that many will agree with me. I think it will be interesting to see what the response will be for the new Jigga record. I personally feel that some mainstream artist will stop using it as much now because they dont want to be looked at funny. T-pain has been saying that the sound is going out for a while to the point where i think it could have affected his album sales. However there are a lot of autotune projects in the works right now. Diddy has an album laced with it. Autotune records are letting a lot of people eat right now and they are not going to just let that go. We will see a fight to keep it alive.

I am going to say that i agree with this guy a little bit and say that the gimmicks that the 'older' rappers have been using are just as annoying as the younger trends. How many times are we going to hear someone come out of retirement. And how many times will we see a legend take shots at the new artist trying to make a buzz. That gets pretty played out also. So before we go to jump on the band wagon to diss any autotune users I think its important to consider that the guy who made DOA is going to do whatever it takes to make himself relevent and make his pockets fatter. At the end of the day an artist will make his art, so if cats are making these records from the heart with a little pitch correction on their voices, that will not stop.

What can I say. I have to do this. Its like my destiny. I dont really have a choice if I WANT to have a choice do you know what I mean? Well let me break it down.
I have a goal. My goal is to become an actuary. To become an actuary there are several exams that you must pass. So I must pass these exams. This is not optional it is mandatory because I have already decided that I am going to be an actuary. So since it is mandatory that I pass, it is imperative that I spend hours getting acquainted with the subject material that I will be tested over. Hence my living as a monk in solitude. no disrespect to monks... I have not yet fully retreated from society, however I am living without any tv or other controlled substances lol. My cell is still the same so I am reachable however when im not checking to see what Joe Budden just said on twitter or looking at the latest celebrity nude photo leaks, i'm deep into my probability texts. Just for all my ppl that cared to hear about that.

Now that thats over with... have you ever noticed how Nas is on all of the best hip hop albums of like the last 2 years. He makes a guest appearance with Game on Letter to the King on LAX. He was prophetic with Young Jeezy on My President is Black. On Theater of the mind he let us know that he Does it for Hip Hop. Even on Jay's last release Nas broke down the definition of Success. Even in the last two major hip hop releases Nas has been a collaborator with his fellow Def Jam artists Ross and Jadakiss. I can believe Nas when he says he does it for hip hop... for the other so called best rappers alive, I dont know any that I can place higher than Nas. So I am about 3 classes short of ending my semester... i still have finals but that's no biggie since i LEARNED so much these last few months lol. I have been so busy. trying to juggle is a difficult task sometimes. Thats the purpose of life tho. its been crazy still. Mr Marshal Mathers is back and disrespectful as ever. With a new single 'We Made You' produced by the great Dr. Dre, Eminem returns to his celebrity bashing ways. He actually drops more names then the Game in this one. With references to Kim Kardishian, Samatha Ronson, Linsey Lohan, Ellen Degeneres, Porscha, Jessica Alba, Elvis, Amy Winehous, Blake, and a few others... I know that the public is going to eat this song up. Not only for the controversy it will cause, but because of how long it has been since Em actually put out music. I dont understand how the interscope came has held on to his material so tightly when even Tha Carter III was not safe from being leaked early. The song however does feature Dre's signature keys and a strong trombone which have been missed.

So it snowed last night.... The charger had a nice white blanket on it when I came out to go to class today. I really cant wait to go somewhere warmer. I had a big test in probability today. I feel good about it... My teacher likes to make the tests just a lil harder than what you think you are supposed to know. I tried to study a little extra but I kept being distracted.
